SCOTTISH CRIME AND DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY

SCDEA UNCOVERS COCAINE FACTORY

On Thursday 2 September, officers from the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA) uncovered a cocaine factory on the outskirts of Glasgow, near East Kilbride.

The illegal drugs factory was found in an outbuilding close to Carmunnock Road.

Two men, aged 40 and 47, have been arrested.

A quantity of cocaine and mixing agents were seized, along with associated equipment, which indicated the adulteration and onward supply of over 25 kilograms of cocaine with an approximate street value of around £1 million.

The men are set to appear today at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Detective Chief Superintendent Allan Moffat, head of investigations group, SCDEA said:

“The illegal drugs trade has a significant impact on our communities, through the costs imposed on our justice, health and social systems.

“Many users perceive cocaine to be a ‘clean’ and ‘safe’ drug.  However, it is an illegal drug, which has serious health risks.  The use of adulterants is common place and users can never be really sure what they are taking.

“The SCDEA is committed to tackling the illegal drugs trade to prevent the flow of harmful substances to our communities and to bring those responsible to justice.”
