CHOICES FOR LIFE![]() ‘Choices for Life’ is a two hour, multi-media concert style event to which all primary 7 pupils throughout Scotland are invited. The slick, fast moving format gives children reliable and credible information about all substances, specifically alcohol, tobacco and cannabis. ‘Choices for Life’ aims to equip pupils with information they need to make informed, positive, healthy lifestyle choices and resist negative peer pressure at a time when they are making the transition from primary to secondary education. It also seeks to contribute to the wider personal, social health and well being of children through improving knowledge, raising self-esteem and developing decision-making skills. The event’s origins began within Strathclyde Police and since 2005 have been organised by the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA) in partnership with all eight Scottish Police Forces and will be seen by an estimated 50,000 school pupils across Scotland each year. ‘Choices for Life’ is funded by the Scottish Government. Supporting materials for use within the classroom before and after the event have been developed by the SCDEA, Learning and Teaching Scotland and NHS Health Scotland and are available to download from the Choices for Life website. They are designed to support the Curriculum for Excellence and complement work already done within the classroom around substance use and misuse. The event is well received by all who have seen it and allows the delivery of many important life-changing messages to an audience receptive to ideas and suggestion.
