DRUGS SEIZED DURING LANARKSHIRE RAIDS
12 April 2010

The Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA), supported by Strathclyde Police, seized approximately 130,000 ecstasy-type tablets during two related raids in Lanarkshire on Friday 9 April.

As part of an ongoing intelligence-led SCDEA investigation, around 30,000 tablets were recovered at premises on Heathery Road, Wishaw and a 37-year old female and two males, aged 18 and 20, were arrested.

Officers also seized approximately 100,000 tablets at Oakbank Avenue, Wishaw and two females, aged 23 and 26, were arrested.

The tablets have been chemically examined and identified as TMFPP (trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine), which is a Class C drug.

All five individuals are expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday 12 April.

Detective Chief Superintendent Allan Moffat, Crime Coordinator, SCDEA said:

“Too many of Scotland’s communities are affected by the fear, intimidation and violence associated with the illegal drugs trade.

“Working in partnership with Scotland’s police forces and other agencies, we are determined to track the criminal networks that supply these harmful substances and bring those responsible to justice.”
